DOPAMINE
Dopamine is a chemical that helps brains feel motivated, happy, pleased and rewarded.
It’s generally referred to as the “pleasure molecule”, because it’s released when we experience pleasurable sensations or achieve a goal, prompting us to reproduce these behaviors.
- When you complete a task, your brain releases dopamine. This reinforces your behavior and motivates you to repeat what you’ve done.
- A wonderful role the Creator has given this molecule. And we have a responsibility to discipline ourselves. It’s important for learning and helps us better understand rewarded behavior. Dopamine affects mood and feelings. Its deficiency can lead to mood disorders, such as anxiety or depression.
If these bad habits continue to terrorize you know that God has already given you the power to overcome them and do your part by also remembering these passages:
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. 1 Cor 10 :13
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 1 Peter 5 :8
The more time you spend on social networks, the more you’ll repeat the same topics. If you’re not careful, you could end up wasting time on useless things, taking up all your time and becoming a destructive addiction.
In this way, what should be beneficial in your human functioning is rather to reinforce your weaknesses as you draw pleasure from them.
If we don’t understand its role in our behavior and lack balance in everything we do, we’ll find it difficult to maintain, protect and care for our mental and emotional health.
Dopamine is a molecule that God created or, better said, placed in our bodies for our mental well-being, but its balance is essential.
Excessive use of social networks or addictions can have negative consequences. It’s important to work on and maintain a healthy balance of this molecule. Our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, so let’s take care of it in every respect.
“Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your mids” 1 Corinthians 3.16
