People are there to have an encounter with God, and it happens that in the course of worship services or choir directions, several things come up during this moment and one of them is frustration, which is a human emotion, but which tends to drag us down.

Every day, we have to deal with frustrations, whether they are virtually undetectable or immense, in our personal moments or in community. The sum of all these frustrations can quickly cause anger to explode in us, harming us personally, communally and professionally.

And it can also affect our moments of conducting our worship services, so what can we do? This is the question answered by some of the worship leaders selected for you from many corners of the world and sharing their experiences as well as the solutions that can help many.

Question : What frustrates you most about leading a choir or a worship team and how do you come out of such situations?

I think the biggest thing that frustrates me about leading a choir or worship team is the decreasing levels of commitment and zeal for worship that happens over time.

Usually when a member just joins the team or when a team is just formed, the excitement and passion to worship God is high. But, as time progresses and life gets hard, commitment levels begin dropping, and the fire that was once burning bright starts to fizzle out.

This even begins to affect me as the leader, too. No one is exempt.

Thank God for His grace, though! In these moments, when life is hard and I may be discouraged, I find that if I keep showing up to worship with a sincere and open heart, God moves, and worship is powerful! He is glorified, my heart is strengthened, and the people are encouraged.

I try to encourage my team to keep showing up. I believe commitment is the key to our zeal remaining.

It is not that simple to talk about this complicated theme of leading a choir or a worship team.Let’s all agree that praise is not only a part of a worship service, but it is a lifestyle that we are all called to live. Directing a worship team is a particular call from God, it is managing, evaluating, and verifying.

When we direct a team, we should first know the direction that the Lord wants to lead us to. It is not about our musical capacity, but it is about the Holy Spirit’s inspiration.

Yes, our God is Sovereign, but often time we come out of our worship services frustrated because our objectives were not met.

It usually happens when the worship team does not grasp the vision of the leader; when the chorus and the music is not reaching the level God expected from us. Another type of frustration occurs when you lead an assembly, and that congregation does not grasp the conductor’s leadership despite all the motivational words he is saying. The solution for this issue is found in prayer, on our knees.

Another solution is your technical work. The worship leader also needs to know his crowd to better direct it.

Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2

Worship is very important to me. The more I learn about my Father, the more I learn about what it means to give Him praise and worship. It is definitely more than just singing and clapping to a few songs on Sunday.

Worship is a lifestyle. We give him all of ourselves, withholding nothing. We walk hand in hand with the Lord, learning how to love Him the way that He loves us so well. Singing songs and playing instruments are just a few tools that we use to glorify God with these gifts that He had given to us.

I’d say, that one of the things that frustrates me the most about leading worship in the church is that many people still don’t understand the meaning of why we even have praise and worship in a service, or what true worship is.

It frustrates me when a time of worship seems more like a concert or live performance. It frustrates me that sometimes there is a disconnect of what is happening on stage compared to what’s going on in the atmosphere of the congregation as a whole.

I will be honest I haven’t been in the music scene or leading worship that long so I haven’t really found a solution. I definitely pray through it and try to refocus my mind on the Lord, but I’ve only had a few months of experience doing it but The solutions to my frustration is what just said above.

The moment that frustrates me the most is when I lead the worship service , is when I can’t do things according to the Spirit. When I feel like it’s me who is control of things instead of being led by the Holy Spirit.

As for the choir ,I am really frustrated  when you feel like you can’t control anything anymore while leading  youth and kids.

What I do, I go back to myself, I review my walk with the Lord, if there is something to be arranged or fixed, I do it.

The most frustrating moment in leading a choir is when you start noticing that the hearts of your choir members as well as the instrumentalists are not in communion with God. It can be seen during service: the atmosphere is heavy, and the flow is missing. The worship service is dense, the music itself is mechanical, and people are unresponsive to the leading of the service.

Another indicator is conflict within the main group, lack of love and some sub-groups based on affinities or common interests start to emerge. To mitigate this issue, we can start by having conversations with the members of the group and by teaching them about the nature of worship, the leading of a service, and conjointly the importance of intimacy with God. We also teach about the meaning of leading a service, the significance of worship and the connection between a pure heart and worship leading.

We can try to maintain a regular pace in reminding the group by teaching about it in a weekday’s meetings.

Discipline is likewise a focal point to solve this problem. Sanctioning the choir members regarding the commitment they took toward the choir, based on the way they exercise ministry; and even their Christian life is encouraged in the Bible. Probation can be a spiritual method to allow the godly seeds to produce fruit. Discipline allows the removal of ungodly habits; it draws the attention of the child of God or servant of God on his responsibility regarding his walk and his service to God to please Him. Sanctioning whether positive or negative can allow the servant of God to remain in the will of his master; it corrects and helps the child of God to remain holy and flee from what displease God.

Teachings, reminders of teachings, collective spiritual exercise such as fasting and prayer, fellowships and discipline are the remedies to this issue.
